Calcasieu Pass is a tidal inlet between the western Louisiana barrier coast at Cameron and the eastern end of the chenier plain, leading from the Gulf of Mexico into Calcasieu Lake and the Port of Lake Charles. The tide is predominantly diurnal and small, with a mean range of 1.21 ft (0.37 m) at the Calcasieu Pass station.
